Kinder-Dennis Home For Funerals

In 1867, George W. Comee became Waseca's first mortician. Upon his arrival, he opened a furniture store in partnership with Maj. William C. Young. Mr. Helms succeeded Young and in 1873, S.S. Comee took the place of Helms. The firm remained Comee Bros. until 1882, when the Waseca Furniture Co. was organized. The firm later became known as Sawin & Comee and remained that name until 1905. It was in that year that Samuel H. Pfaff bought an interest in the business and they continued in partnership until 1915 when Mr. Pfaff bought out his partner. In 1928, the business moved to the corner of State St. and Elm Ave. and George Pfaff joined his father in the business. In 1939, Pfaff Home for Funerals constructed a new building which is the current location of the funeral home at 109 3rd St. NE.

Following the death of George Pfaff in 1962, Walter F. Kinder purchased the business in June of 1963. Mr. Kinder had been an employee of the firm from 1948-1955. The firm name was then changed to Pfaff-Kinder Home for Funerals.

In 1968 the Lindquist Funeral Home in Waseca was purchased and became part of the Pfaff-Kinder Home for Funerals. The firm continued to operate under that name until 1978 when the Pfaff name was dropped and it became Kinder Home for Funerals. In 1993 Tim and Becky Dennis purchased the funeral home and continue to operate it under the name Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services.

Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home

During the 1860's, the Worlein Funeral Home was opened in Waterville. Worlein's continued to operate until 1954 when Peterson's bought the funeral home which was located in downtown Waterville. In 1964, Wayne Prosch joined the firm and in 1968 opened the Prosch Funeral Home in the former Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) Church on the west end of Waterville. Tim and Becky Dennis bought the funeral home in 1996 and it continues under the name Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home.

In 2013 the name was changed to Dennis Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
