William J. Giefer, age 91, of Faribault, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Dr., Faribault. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church. William John Giefer, the son of Hubert and Lillian (Kolterman) Giefer, was born on December 7, 1918 in Forest Township, Rice County, MN. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Northern France and Central Europe. Bill was a farmer all of his life in Forest and Richland Townships, until he moved into town in 2000. He also worked for Olsen from Albert Lea for 4 years cutting trees, tilling, and helping with drag line. From 1964-1971 he worked for Samskaar Concrete. From 1972-1983 he drove truck for C.M.I. After that he worked for different farmers until he had to finally quit. He was united in marriage to Martha (Rezac) Wilde on October 21, 1971 in Morristown. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2002. He was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Legion Post 43. He is survived by three step-children, Pat (Bill) Krenske of Faribault, Chuck (Mary) Wilde of Faribault, and Dave (Lynn) Wilde of Grand Rapids, MN; nine step- grandchildren; many step-great grandchildren; step-children from a previous marriage, William (Patty) Miles, John (Kristi) Miles, and Ron Miles all of Sioux Falls, SD; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; parents; and brothers and sisters, Catherine Magedanz, Joseph Giefer, Ernest Giefer, Gerald Giefer, Anna Marie Stickel, Mary Alice Giefer, and Gertrude Cordes.
