WAYNE CLARENCE ROEMHILDT, age 78 of Elysian died on Saturday, December 1, 2018 while pursuing his passion of deer hunting in rural Albert Lea.
Born on April 13, 1940 in Morristown, Minnesota, he was the son of Clarence and Bernice (Eichhorst) Roemhildt.  Following his parents divorce, his mother married Robert F. Anderson and in 1947 Wayne and his family moved to Brainerd.  He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1959.  He enjoyed sports when growing up, especially basketball and fastpitch softball.  After high school he worked for Archie Sanders Builders for 7 years.  Wayne enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1963.  He served with the 367th Battalion in Brainerd and was honorably discharged in 1968.
Wayne married the love of his life, Shirley Ebeling on September 18, 1965 at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd.  In 1966, he and Shirley moved to Elysian.  Following their move, they rented a home for 3 years.  During this time he built his permanent house with his own hands.   They were blessed with two children, Angela and Jason.  He became partners with his father and uncle, Dale Roemhildt with Roemhildt Bros. Farm Tiling.  In his later years he did carpentry work until retiring in 2002.  Since 1966, he was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian where he served as an elder for many years.  Wayne really loved the outdoors, feeding his birds, gardening, fishing and hunting with his labs for pheasant in Minnesota and Iowa.   He also liked to watch sports including Gophers hockey, MN Wild, Vikings, and boys basketball.  Wayne and Shirley loved to go camping and spending time with the grandchildren.
Wayne will be missed by his wife of 53 years, Shirley of Elysian; their children, Angela (Mike) Becker of Brownton, Jason Roemhildt (Sherri Kokoschke) of Morristown; and three grandchildren, Todd, Megan, and Cole.  He is also survived by two sisters, Bonne Roemhildt of Stillwater and Ellen (Denny) Morris of Waterville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 4-8 PM and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian with Rev. Russ Grabau officiating.
