VERNON JAMES BESSER, age 81 of Waterville went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.
Born on July 22, 1934 in Vivian Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, he was the son of Alvin and Louise (Neitzel) Besser.   On April 7, 1956, Vernon was united in marriage to Darlene Schultz.   Vernon farmed, was employed at Gear & Broach as well as business opportunities of Verns Repair, Verns Construction, and Verns Bait & Tackle until his retirement in 1987.   He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville where he served on the church council.    Vern was also a member of the Waterville Lions Club and the Waterville Fire Department.  He enjoyed wood working, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and making things for his grandchildren.  Most of all, Vern enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Waterville; three children, Randy (Karen) Besser of Waterville, Thomas Besser of Waterville, and Patricia (Robert) Legvold of East Grand Forks.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Craig (Sara) Besser, Eric (Jaime) Besser, Ryan (Jamie) Groebner, Rhea (Jim) Benz, Kerri Legvold, Kenneth Legvold, and Brandon Legvold; and nine great-grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene and Virgil; and one son, Glenn. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.  Visitation will be held on Monday, one hour before services at the church.  Burial will be at Sakatah Cemetery.
