VELMA CATHRINE YARD, age 91 of Waseca, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Lakeshore Inn in Waseca.
Born in Hunter, North Dakota on December 27, 1924, Velma was the daughter of Earl and Frona (Gebeke) King.  In the years that followed, Velma went on to be raised by her mother and the man that became her step father, Clarence Yard.  She went to school in Audubon, Minnesota before attending college at Concordia in Moorhead, MN.  She spent most of her working years at Brown Printing in Waseca, although she also worked for a time at Real Life Cooperative in Waseca, Owatonna and Northfield. Throughout her life Velma was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Paul, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca, and most recently had been attending Christ Community Church in Waseca.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and was blessed with many friends.  Velma loved animals and enjoyed painting, volunteering at care facilities, photography, and playing board games.
Velma is survived by her son, Toby (Dawn) Yard of Waseca; three grandchildren, Cody Yard and his girlfriend Katie Riegelman, Amber (Steven) Barbknecht, and Kristine Robertson and her husband Mike Culhane; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Rory Barbknecht; many nieces and nephews, Twinkle (Bob) Sonday of Northfield, Darwin (Beth) Jorgenson of Janesville, Lisa (Ken) Schnoor of Casa Grande, AZ, Wade (Lori) Jorgenson of Omaha, NE, Jeff (Linda) Jorgenson of Grand Rapids, Julie (Kurt) Davis of Lake Crystal and their families.  She was preceded in death by her mother, her step-father, and three siblings, Ellen, Arthur, and Leatrice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Christ Community Church in Waseca, with Rev. Chris Johnson officiating.
