Sharon L. Atkin
SHARON LORENE ATKIN, age 80 of New Richland, died on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the New Richland Care Center.
Born in Aitkin, Minnesota on July 11, 1938, Sharon was the daughter of John and Alvida (Brooton) Mickelson.  She graduated from Aitkin schools before marrying Wayne Fossum in 1956.  Throughout her life she enjoyed living in several places within Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota.  Living in the Black Hills allowed her to go to Mount Rushmore many times.  She had been a dental assistant in Harvey, ND for a time, had been employed at the Faribault Daily News, worked as a waitress at the Powel House in Waseca, and had also worked at E.F. Johnson Company in Waseca for about 14 years.  She loved caring for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her cats, and she loved reading.  She was also so happy to see the dogs that visitors sometimes brought to the care center.  She was gifted at sewing and made most of the clothing for her children when they were small.  She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior in Faribault.
Sharon is survived by two daughters, Theresa (Gary) Johnson of New Richland, and Marcia Bignell of Hastings; one sister, Marilyn Ekman of Helena, MT; four grandchildren, Serina Johnson, Shari (Joel) Fell, Nicole Holmquist, and Troy Holmquist; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Orin, and Jade Mely, Skilir, Harley, and Weston Fell, and Matthew and Aaron Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents; five sisters, Jennie Bixby, Gladys Lindholm, Clara Larson, Alyce Rothbauer, and Joyce Mickelson; three brothers, Arnold Mickelson, Vernon Mickelson, and Orville Mickelson; one granddaughter, Angela Holmquist; and one grandson, Garret Johnson.
Interment will take place at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca at a later date.
