Ruth E. Wiechmann

Ruth Wiechmann, 102 year old resident of Fort Collins, CO, Formerly of Waseca died peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Fort Collins Village.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waseca. Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the church on Friday. Memorials preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church Perpetual Fund in Waseca, and Good Samaritan Fort Collins Village, 508 West Trilby Road, Fort Collins, CO, 80525.

Arrangements are with Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service ~ McRaith Chapel in Waseca.

Ruth Wiechmann was born on July 23, 1914, near Smith’s Mill, MN to Harley and Amy (Vandarwarka) Long. She grew up in rural Blue Earth County, moving to Waseca County as a teenager and graduating from Waseca High School.

In October 1939, she married Ernest Wiechmann at the Methodist Church in Waseca. An active partner in their strawberry farm, Ruth was also employed in food service work at the former Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. She retired from Brown Printing in 1979.

Ruth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for all of her married life where she was active in Bible study, Women of the Church, and the Quilters. After Ernest’s death, she became one of the original residents of Realife Cooperative in Waseca, where she served on the board. In retirement, she became a skilled quilter, sharing her completed projects with appreciative family members. In 2011, she moved to Ft. Collins, CO at the foot of the Rockies to be closer to family.

Ruth is survived by her daughters: Karleen (Robert) Remington of Marshfield, WI, and Nadine (James) Hunt, of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren: Rebecca (Jared) Orsi of Fort Collins, CO, and Matthew (Michelle Albers) Hunt of Wolverine Lake, WI; great grandchildren: Renata and Carlos Orsi of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by her brother, Bruce (Joyce) Long of Waterville and a number of nieces and nephews scattered across the United States.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; and sisters: Helen Mollenhauer, Alice Wilson, Hazel Suemnick, and Mable Long.
