Roman "Bob" Schwab, age 86, of Faribault, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Immaculate Conception in Faribault. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Roman Joseph Schwab, the son of Frank and Josephine (Beck) Schwab, was born on October 24, 1922 in Mankato. Bob farmed with his father before serving in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He worked at the Hubbard Mill in North Mankato prior to his farming career. Bob was a lifelong farmer, starting in Eagle Lake, MN, then to Arlington from 1958 to 1963 and in Faribault from 1963 until his retirement. Bob was a member of the Faribault Council 889 Knights of Columbus, and the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his significant other of 27 years, Vivian Anderson of Faribault; eight children, Barb Schwab of Winnipeg, Canada, Tom (Carolyn) Schwab of Princeton, MN, Dan (Lisa) Schwab of Mantorville, MN, Dave (Candace) Schwab of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeff (Sarah) Schwab of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Jack (Barb) Schwab of Owatonna, MN, Mike Schwab of Sioux Falls, SD, and Matt Schwab of Medford, MN; their mother, Gloria Schwab of Faribault; 23 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Marcella Froemel of North Mankato; daughter-in-law, Deb Schwab of Spearfish, SD; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Schwab on Dec. 30, 2004; and five siblings, Francis Schwab, Josephine Rausch, Frank Schwab, Marie Goettl, and Alfred Schwab. Memorials may be directed to the choice of the donor in Bob''s memory.
