Robert Volling

Robert Volling September 3, 1940 - February 27, 2009

Robert C. Volling, age 68 of Pemberton, died on Friday, February 27, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Word of Life Free Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. David Wold officiating. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 pm. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Tuesday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Robert Carl was born on September 3, 1940 in Sheldon, Wisconsin to James and Georgia (Sweet) Volling. He was a 1959 graduate of Glen Flora High School in Glen Flora, WI. Robert went on to attend the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He was united in marriage to Karen Lee Lewis on July 1, 1967 in Howard Lake, MN. Robert and Karen lived a short time in Richfield, MN before moving to Pemberton in 1972. Robert worked as a maintenance mechanic for 20 years with the Mankato Clinic, and the last 16 years with the Curt Fisher Group in Mankato. Over the years Robert volunteered his time coaching youth baseball and basketball, teaching Sunday school at Medo Lutheran Church, serving on the Waldorf-Pemberton School Board, the Pemberton City Council, and the Pemberton Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed tinkering with old cars. He is survived by his wife Karen of Pemberton; by his children Shelly (John) Champa of Pine Island, MN, Sherry (Kris) Larson of Waseca, MN, and Robert Volling, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; by his six grandchildren Hailey and Kaitlyn Champa, Peyton, Harley, and Shelby Larson, and Madalyn Volling; by his sisters LaVina Erke of Tony, WI, and Betty (Lloyd) Edming of Glen Flora, WI; by his good friend Bernadette Sack. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Rita Taber. Casketbearers are: George Galetka, David Edming, Tim Collins, Mike Oliver, and Craig Malecha.
