Dr. Richard Hollister Meyer, 84, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2013 in Surprise, Arizona.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault. Interment will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church.

The family prefers memorials to be directed to St. Lucas Care Center, Shattuck-St. Mary''s School, and the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in memory of Dr. Richard H. Meyer.

Richard H. Meyer was born on February 13, 1929 in Faribault, Minnesota to Dr. Paul and Dorothy Meyer. He attended school in Faribault and graduated from Shattuck School in 1946. After graduating from Harvard in 1950, he attended the University of Minnesota Medical School and obtained his medical degree in 1954. He did his internship and surgery residency training at Presbyterian-St. Luke''s hospitals in Chicago, now known as Rush Medical Center. He spent two years in service at the Air Force base in Tucson, Arizona from 1957 to 1959. After completing his training, he returned to Faribault in 1961 to practice medicine at the Meyer Clinic with his brother and father. He was a prominent physician in Faribault until 1975, when he moved to Mankato to join the Mankato Clinic and practice surgery until his retirement in 1996.

Dr. Meyer was a member of a number of professional and civic organizations, including the Rice County Medical Society, the Blue Earth County Medical Society, and the Minnesota Medical Association. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Shattuck Schools. He was also a member of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault and Saint John''s Episcopal Church in Mankato. Of his many interests, he had a pilot''s license and enjoyed flying his airplane and traveled to many places. He was an avid golfer for many years and loved wood working and photography. He also enjoyed skiing, sailing, and spending time with his family at French Lake.

Dr. Meyer is survived by his wife of 29 years, Debbie Basmoen Meyer, his children, Karl Meyer, Nancy (Rick) Van Buren, Susan (Jeffrey) Anderson, Janna (Stephen) Schlag, and Jason Douglas, as well as nine grandchildren, ex-wife, Barbara Lee Meyer, brother and sister in-laws, Tom (Cindy) Basmoen, David (Linda) Basmoen, and Vickie Basmoen, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Paul and Dorothy Meyer, his sister, Janice Queensen, and his brother, Dr. Robert Meyer.

He will be deeply missed and remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his healing touch with his patients, and the love that he shared with his wife and family.
