Raymond C. Gomsrud, age 77 of Janesville, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Immanuel-St. Joseph''s Mayo Health System in Mankato. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 19th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Ann Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Raymond Carl was born on January 4, 1934 to Carl and Elizabeth (Ruehl) Gomsrud. Ray graduated from Janesville High School in 1952 and went on to attend Mankato State University. He entered military service during the Korean War in the United States Army. He served from April 1953 until his honorable discharge in March of 1955. He returned home and began working for F.H. Brown Construction in Madison Lake. He was united in marriage to Barbara L. Michels on June 26, 1958 at St. Paul''s Catholic Church in Nicollet. Ray and Barb raised their family and resided in Janesville. He then worked for Hinrichs John Deere Implement as a mechanic, and from 1963 to 1975 delivered bulk oil for Mobile Oil Co. in Janesville. In 1975 Ray began farming in the Nicollet area, and later in Waldorf. His wife Barb died on July 14, 1983. Ray married Darlene McDonough on April 29, 1989 at St. Joseph''s Catholic Church in Waldorf, and made their home in Janesville. Ray retired from farming in 2000. He was a longtime member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville, and was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of, Janesville American Legion # 281, Smiths Mill-Janesville Sportsman''s Club, Prairie Ridge Golf Club, and former member of Janesville Rotary, and the Janesville Volunteer Fire Department. Ray enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, and his many fishing trips to Lake of the Woods. He is survived by his wife Darlene of Janesville; his daughters Joan Sheppard of Naperville, IL, and Mary (Jeff) Flaten of Savage; by his step-sons Shane (Cheri) McDonough of Waldorf, and Shawn McDonough of Bellville, MI, and by his step-daughter Shanna Rossell of Waconia; by his grandchildren Jessica Sheppard, Paige Flaten, Angela Sheppard, Charles Flaten, and Samuel Flaten; by his step-grandchildren Marcus McDonough, Chelsey Rossell, Cole McDonough, James McDonough, and Chase Rossell; by his sister-in-law Irene Gomsrud of Janesville, and by nieces and nephews and other relatives.
