Portia (Keyes) Stepan, age 69 of Bloomington, formerly of Janesville, died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 12th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. The Stepan Family will greet friends on Friday from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Arnoldt- McRaith Funeral Home and Crematory of Janesville is handling arrangements. Portia May was born on May 26, 1941 to Beauford and Aimee (Wood) Keyes in Mankato, Minnesota. She was a 1959 graduate of Janesville High School. On July 18, 1960 she was united in marriage to Joseph Wayne Stepan in Minneapolis. Portia and Joe lived for a short time in Gaylord before settling in Janesville. From 1972 to 1989 they owned and operated Joe''s Shoe Store in Janesville. Portia and Joe moved to Chicago where Portia began her career with Von Maur. In 1999 they returned to Bloomington where Portia continued her employment with Von Maur until retiring in 2009. She was a member of St. Edward''s Catholic Church in Bloomington, and was a longtime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters-St. Ann Court #645. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Joe of Bloomington, and her children Julie (Tom) Flaskamp of Minneapolis and Timothy Stepan of Shorewood; her grandchildren Feliz, Antonio, Ava and Nicholas; her sisters Sue (Roger) Jespersen of Chaska, Maxine Hullum of California, Cheeny (Ron) Cummins of Janesville, and her brothers Leo (Sharon) Keyes of Janesville, Roy (Sally) Keyes of Janesville, and Cliff Keyes of Waseca; her sister-in-law Patricia (Ray) Nakladal of Janesville and brother-in-law Kenneth (Bonnie) Stepan of Mankato; her former daughter-in-law Claudia Lavato of Gilbert, AZ; by many nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe and Bea Stepan.
