Monica C. (Sahl) Borwege, age 49, of Faribault, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Homestead Hospice in Owatonna, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault, with Fr. Kevin Finnegan, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Monica Christine Sahl, the daughter of Richard and Rosemarie (Schaaf) Sahl, was born on October 19, 1961 in Faribault. Monica graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1980 and Mankato State University in 1984 with degrees in Social Work and Corrections. She then worked at the Wilson Center, Buckeye Manor, and ESI. In the late 1980''s, Monica and her mother also did foster care at their home for some of the teens Monica met working at Buckeye. She has been credited for helping some turn their lives around. She currently had been working as a paraprofessional with Roosevelt Elementary School and with the Faribault School District for the past 15 years. Monica married Don Borwege on June 20, 1998 at Christ Lutheran Church in Faribault. She enjoyed scrapbooking, crafts, and playing cards. She also enjoyed time with her family and her son Blake was her joy in life. Monica volunteered at numerous school functions including the PTA. She is survived by her husband, Don; son, Blake; mother, Rosemarie Kaderlik; brother, Steven Sahl; sisters, Dawn Ellsmore and Gwyn Kaderlik (special friend, Jet Tourtillott); step-daughter, Mary Garcia; and step grandchildren, Christian, Roman, and Jose Garcia, all of Faribault; foster daughter, Tina Sullivan of Minneapolis; uncle Walter Holtzer of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Wunderlich; step-father, Albert Kaderlik Jr.; father, Richard Sahl; great nephew, Logan McKeever; grandparents, Maria and August Schaaf; and uncle, Gunther Schaaf.
