Marie E. Nelson, age 91, of Honolulu, Hawaii and formerly of Faribault, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Kalihi Foster Home in Honolulu, Hawaii, following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Dr., Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Columbanus Cemetery in Blooming Prairie, MN. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Academy in memory of Marie. Marie Elizabeth Lund, the daughter of William and Anna (Dusek) Lund, was born on December 6, 1919 in Austin, MN. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School where she was a cheerleader and drum majorette. She married Edwin J. Nelson on January 11, 1938 in Faribault. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2001. She loved to dance, bowl, oil paint, and play golf. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Faribault Golf & Country Club, a life member of District One Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Faribault Eagles Auxiliary, Faribault Art Center, Minnesota Hospital Circulation Chairperson, State Hospital Auxiliary, and Divine Mercy Church. Marie was on the board of directors for the Red Cross, and helped start the Meals-On-Wheels program at District One Hospital. She is survived by her son, Dr. Ronald Nelson and his wife, Luci, of Honolulu, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Debra A. Nelson of Aurora, CO, Michael W. Nelson and his wife, Alma of Lansing, IL, Sharon M. Nelson-Olivas and her husband, Frank of Flagstaff, AZ, and Ronald T. Nelson Jr. and his wife, Connie of College Station, TX; 15 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin; parents; brother, Harold Lund of Ogden, UT; and sister, Edith A. Wanous of Bradenton, FL.
