MARCELLA LUELLA STANGLER, age 98 of Waterville, passed away on April 1, 2017 at Traditions Memory Care in Waterville.
Born in Le Sueur County on September 4, 1918, Marcella was the daughter of Tobias and Martha Broadbent. She graduated from Waterville High School and Mankato Normal School and taught rural school in Cordova Township and Pierre, SD. On Jun 20, 1939 she married Willard Stangler at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and they lived at their family farm for 58 years. Together Marcella and Willard traveled the world, visiting six continents before settling at Hilltop Terrace/Traditions in 1997. Marcella was active in 4-H, Rosary Society, and the Republican Party.
Marcella is survived by her children, Keith (Karen) Stangler of Byron, Curt (Julie) Stangler of NC, Mary Bang of AZ, David (Sara Jordan) of CO, Laurie Opert of MD, and John Stangler of Bemidji; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband; one sister, Gretchen Miller; and one grandson, Erik Opert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
