Madelyne "Sally" was born to Timothy and Alice (Halloran) Burns on December 19th, 1917 in Tyrone Township, Le Sueur County, rural St. Thomas, MN. She attended country school in Tyrone Township. She went to Le Center High School up to the 11th grade. She was united in marriage to Charles H. Wolff on June 16th, 1937. She was a lifelong member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Madelyne grew up in St. Thomas with her parents and seven siblings. As the oldest child, she was often involved in the care of the younger ones. On September 2nd, 1936 Madelyne came to Le Ray Township, Blue Earth County, rural Madison Lake, MN to Clarence and Kay Wolffs home to help with their children and housework while Kay was expecting a baby. It was there that she met Charles, who then became her loving husband of 59 years. They raised ten children on the family farm. Madelyne was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. Along with their own children, they also fostered over thirty children who needed a family to offer them love and support. They fostered for over 20 years and were awarded Blue Earth County Foster Parents of the Year in 1969.
Her ten children brought 28 grandchildren into the world for her to enjoy. She was actively involved in helping to raise many of her grandchildren and was a vital part of their upbringing. She also felt lucky to be blessed with 33 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She found great joy in visiting and spending time with her family throughout her entire life and always seemed to be able to keep track of what everyone was doing. The devotion of her family, especially her ten children, allowed her to always stay in her home.
Madelyne enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, cooking, and canning. She was a member of Christian Mothers, the Hibernians, and was a Hospice Volunteer of Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital.
Madelyne is survived by her children and grandchildren: Charles (Yvonne) of Janesville, MN, and children Treasa, LoryAnn, Chet, and Paula; James Wolff of Mankato, MN and son Jeremy; Bernetta of Waseca, MN; Richard (Berny) of Prior Lake, MN, and children Wayne and Barb; Raymond (Mary) of Edina, MN and children April, Lisa, and Tim; Dr. Larry (Betsy) of Edina, MN, and children Adam, Ryan, and Sara; Timothy (Susan) of Janesville, MN, and children Nicole, Shane, Raquel, Lindsay, and Brooke; Marcia (Glenn) Cotton of Mankato, MN and children Kristina, Samuel, and Rose; Gerald (Mary) of Janesville, MN and children Daniel, Allison, Kayla, and Jill; and Karla (Elbert) Wells of Moreno Valley, CA and children Erika and Jermaine; 33 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Grace OBrien of Le Sueur, MN and her brother Edward (Eileen) Burns of New Prague, two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Burns of Le Sueur and Vangie Burns of Le Sueur.
