Lyle W. Witt, age 79 of rural Janesville, died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at his Alton Township home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Clair with Rev. Matthew Grunewald officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt- McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville and will continue on Thursday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Lyle Walter was born at home in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota on August 22, 1930 to Walter and Elsie (Grams) Witt. Lyle was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, and attended Trinity Parochial School through 8th grade. He served in the United States Army from April 22, 1953 until his honorable discharge on April 21, 1955. Lyle farmed his entire life, and in his later years worked for Independent Grain in Janesville. On November 21, 1984, he married Carol E. (Lee) Grams. Carol preceded him in death on August 19, 2007. Lyle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville for 54 years, and was currently a member of the St. John''s Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. He was a long time member of the Janesville American Legion Post #281. Lyle is survived by his five step- daughters, Karen Grams and Marlene Grams both of Janesville, Nadine Grams of Waseca, Holly (Louis "Rick") Walechka of Janesville, and Carolyn Grams of St. Clair; by nine grandchildren, Karlee Grams, Collin and Jordan Kubista, Wittlee and Carilayne Gottschalk, Austin Baker, Aaron and Benjamin Walechka, and Estherlee Grams; by his two sisters, Dolores (Forrest) Van Camp, and Lorraine (David) Clausen; by his sisters-in- law, Annie Christiansen, Laura Tuttle, Alice (Sid) Jarva, Shirley Lee Regitschnig, Sylvia Lee and Marlene Lee; by his brothers-in-law, Donald Lee and Ricky Lee, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and two nephews.
