LOIS A. CARLSON, age 83 of Columbia Heights, died on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Whispering Creek Care Center in Janesville, Minnesota.

Born in Minneapolis on November 3, 1936, Lois was the daughter of Clarence and Mary Louise (Briggs) Andersen.  She grew up in Minneapolis where she graduated from Edison Senior High School.  She went on to attend the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, graduating with a degree in home economics.  She married George Carlson on September 21, 1957 at Trinity Methodist Church in northeast Minneapolis.  Over the years Lois worked as a registrar for Camp Fire USA, and later as the Standards Accreditation Trainer for the American Camping Association.  Along with her love and dedication to camping organizations, she was passionate about sewing, knitting, and other crafts, enjoyed cooking for large groups of people, and belonged to a bible study group that discussed social justice issues.  She also had a great love for classical music and she and her husband followed the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra for many years, even traveling with them throughout Europe.

Lois is survived by her husband, George of Janesville; two daughters, Phyllis (Norman) Giebner of Waterville, and Joan Carlson (Dan Huenneke) of Reston, VA; five grandchildren, Sam (Larissa) Giebner of Duluth, Tiffany Giebner of Bemidji, Derek Huenneke of Reston, VA., Kendra (Matt) Walchinsky of North Wales, PA., and Doug Huenneke (Margie Karen) of San Diegeo, CA.; three great-grandchildren, Anders and Greta Giebner and Jacob Wachinsky; and two sisters-in-law, Burdell DeMuth of Morgan, and Victoria Carlson of Walworth, WI.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Paul; and one sister, Noreen.

Memorials may be sent to ​Camp Fire Minnesota, ​4829 Minnetonka Blvd. Suite 202, St. Louis Park, MN 55416.  Please designate the gift for "Tanadoona Kitchen". A celebration of life will be held this summer at Camp Tanadoona.
