Leola I. DeGroot, age 78, of Faribault, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

Leola Isabell Kes, the daughter of John and Lillian (Dvorak) Kes, was born on July 11, 1934 in Lonsdale, MN. She attended school in Lonsdale and graduated from Northfield High School. On February 23, 1952 she was united in marriage to Myron DeGroot at St. Dominic''s Catholic Church in Northfield. After their marriage Leola worked at Foldcraft in Kenyon, MN. Later she worked as a cook at different businesses including, Bethlehem Academy High School and Grandpa Al''s. In 1970 they started the D&H Lodge near Cedar Lake and operated it until 1987. Leola was passionate about cooking and always enjoyed her time in the kitchen. She was also an avid card player and loved to go bowling. She was a member of different teams over the years and had several 600 games. She also enjoyed fishing as they went on several fishing trips to northern Minnesota. Leola had been a member of the Cedar Lake Sportsman''s Club and the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary of which she held many officer positions.

She is survived by her husband Myron DeGroot of Faribault; by three children, Kathy (James) Caron, Linda (Gerald) Tousignant and Larry (Nancy) DeGroot, all of Faribault; by 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; by two sisters, Donna (Gerald) Van Ryn and Caroline Perry, both of Faribault and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She Jerry was Kes. preceded in death by her parents, her son Gerald DeGroot and by her brother
