LeRoy Mathew Mulcahey was born September 4, 1940, in Waseca to Arthur and Elizabeth (Berg) Mulcahey. He attended school until the third grade, after which he worked on the family farm into his 20s.

With the help of his sister Bette, at age 26, Leroy took a job at the St. Paul Seminary, first in the kitchen and later as a custodian. He slept in a small basement room next to the boiler until eventually moving into his own apartment a half mile away from where he could walk to campus. He worked at the Seminary over 50 years (including after semi-retirement in 2010) until he fell February 1st, the beginning his final decline. LeRoy was a people-person who enjoyed holidays with his family, road trips to historical sites around Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, and visiting (teasing) his many nieces and nephews. At the Seminary LeRoy was an astute judge of character and interacted with countless students, some of whom he stayed close to after they were ordained. Over the decades many priests assisted him with his financials, doctor visits, and other practicalities. For the past 20 years Fr. Tom Margeviius befriended him, bringing LeRoy to the State Fair, Twins games, cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, and pilgrimages to Rome (seeing Pope Benedict XVI), Greece, and Ireland. The Seminary was like LeRoys second family.

Due to complications after his latest fall, LeRoy died peacefully in St. Joseph Hospital 10 AM Thursday, March 30, 2017, in the presence of Fr. Tom and a couple seminarians.

LeRoy is survived by two sisters, Monica Fritz of West St. Paul, and Bette Ann (Tom) Furr of Rochester; sisters-in-law Carol Mulcahey of Janesville and Deloris Mulcahey of Waseca; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives; priests, staff, and students from the St. Paul Seminary; and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Stasia (Sylvester) Stenzel, John, Don, Richard, and infant brother Arthur Francis; and brother-in-law Orvit Fritz.

The Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.
