Lawrence D. "Animal" Johnson, age 53 of Waseca, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at his home. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 3:00 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca with Sr. Lois Erpelding officiating. Interment will be held in Virginia MN, at a later date. The Johnson Family will greet friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service, at McRaith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Lawrence Douglas was born on February 4, 1956 in Virginia, Minnesota to Cullen D. and Mary Ann (Kintner) Johnson. He graduated from Mountain Iron High School in 1974. After high school Lawrence worked in the Iron Range mines in northern Minnesota. He then moved to the state of Washington, where he worked for many years in the building construction industry. On May 24, 1996 he was united in marriage to Kathy L. Cartin at the Waseca County Courthouse. Lawrence was known by all his friends and family as "Animal". He was a "collector" of many things, enjoyed racing, and partying with his friends. Lawrence''s friends were very important in his life, and he was always willing to help others. He is survived by his wife Kathy of Waseca; by his son Steven B. Johnson of Virginia; by his step-son Carl Shurson of Waseca; by his father Cullen Johnson of Virginia; by his brothers, Gerald (Terrilynn) Johnson of Zim, Steven Johnson of Virginia, and Bobby (Luann) Johnson of Mountain Iron; by his sisters Vicky (Bob) Warren of Mountain Iron, JoAnn Johnson of Virginia, and Barb Johnson of Hibbing; by his brothers-in-law Murray (Sue) Srock and Curtis (Rita) Srock, all of Austin; by his special friends Devin and Cathy Hoy of Waseca; by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.
