Kathryn (Kay) M. Nauman, age 88 of Faribault, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault. A memorial service celebrating Kay''s life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault, with the Very Reverend James Zotalis, Dean of the Cathedral, officiating. Interment will be held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour on Sunday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour. Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault. Kathryn Martha Higgs, the daughter of J.R. (Dick) and Alvina (Winkelman) Higgs, was born on March 1, 1920 in New Ulm, MN. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1938 and attended Carleton College where she majored in English, Speech, and Creative Writing. Kathryn married Roger Nauman on Jan. 16, 1945 in New Ulm and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. Kay was employed with Northwest Airlines and the Rice County Assessor''s Office. She served on the Board of the Visiting Nurse Association; the Governors Council on Aging; the Mayors Advisory Board during the Cuban missile crisis; the American Association of University Women; American Field Service (AFS) and the League of Women Voters. She was also Co-Chair of the Rice County Republican party, worked at the Bloodmobile, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a President of the Jefferson School PTA. She was an active member of the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour and served her church as a Sunday school teacher; President of the Guild of the Good Shepherd; member of the Altar Guild; the Vestry; the Preservation Committee and a Board member of the Horstman Nursery School. Kay was an avid golfer and served as President of the Ladies League at the Faribault Country Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge; knitting; reading; book club; traveling; writing poetry and gardening. She especially enjoyed working on doll houses for her granddaughters. Kay is survived by her son, John Nauman (Debbie) of Excelsior, MN and by three granddaughters, Elizabeth (Jason) Darlington; Stephanie; and Sarah; by her sister Hope Higgs of Eugene, Oregon; nieces and nephews; and by her best friend Willie, the white Schnauzer. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger Nauman; son, James Nauman; sister, Helen Mathieson;

and brother, John R. Higgs.
