Justine Swanson

Justine Swanson, 105 year old resident of Waseca, died peacefully at Lakeshore Inn Nursing Home in Waseca.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016, at 10:30 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waseca. Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Arrangements are with the Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service ~ McRaith Chapel in Waseca.

Justine Swanson was born on February 23, 1911, in Chisholm, Minnesota to Anton & Mary Baitz. At the age of 12, Justine came to Waseca to live with the Ben Priebe family. On April 28, 1929, Justine was united in marriage to a farmer Roy Swanson of Waseca at St. Peters Lutheran Church Parsonage in New Richland. LeRoy Swanson, a nephew to Roy and Justine, came to live with them at the age of 14 and attended Waseca High School.

Justine enjoyed living on the farm. Together, she and Roy farmed for many years in Otisco and Woodville Townships. In 1985, Roy passed away, they shared 56 years of marriage. Justine then moved off the farm and into Maple Terrace Apartments in Waseca. She managed to live on her own up until the weeks prior to her death.

Justine is survived by her nephews, Roy (Diane) Swanson of California and Don Swanson of Nevada; and a niece, Betty Welfare of Washington.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, and one brother
