JOHN GORDON MATZ, age 86 of Waseca, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Sterling Pointe Senior Living in Princeton.
Born on April 10, 1931 in Waseca County, Minnesota, he was the son of William and Mary Caroline (Erwin) Matz.  John attended Waseca High School where he participated in football and wrestling, graduating with the class of 1951.  Following his schooling he worked various farm jobs.  John married Agnes Louise Peterson on September 4, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.  He worked at Herters and retired from Brown Printing Company of Waseca. John enjoyed gardening, farming, watching and following sports, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes; one daughter, Debra Matz of Mankato; one son, Timothy and (Kim) Matz of Princeton; four grandchildren, Brigette Matz, Beth (Jake) Vlieger, Emma Matz, and Maggie Matz; and two great grandchildren, Gage and Adelyn Vlieger.  He is also survived by one brother, Ted Matz of Waseca and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Malmquist, Emily "Polly" Streitz, and Marian Rocek; and two brothers, James Matz and Vinton "Vince" Matz.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4-7 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca with Rev. David Baumgarn officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
