John C. Dickison October 18, 1936 - June 9, 2013

John C. Dickison, age 76, of Shieldsville, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna following a brief illness.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville. Interment will be held at the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and also on Friday for one hour prior to services at the church. There will be no reviewal at the church on Friday.

Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

John Charles, the son of Charles and Mary (McNamara) Dickison, was born on October 18, 1936 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. At a young age, John''s family moved from to Watertown, South Dakota for a brief time before settling in Morristown where John graduated with the class of 1955. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and later received honorable discharge in 1959. On June 6, 1966, John was united in marriage to Edna "Pee Wee" Dienst in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

After being discharged from the service, John opened an ice cream stand in Medford before working at Voegel''s Dairy in Faribault. He later began his 40 plus year career at Despatch Industries in Lakeville. After retirement, John enjoyed keeping busy by working part time at Dusek''s Bakery, Steven''s Well Drilling, Cabela''s and Auto Value. He enjoyed fishing, camping, walking on the beach and farming. John was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his children, Kelly (Rick) Wroe and Brett (Jackie) Swartwoudt, both of Faribault; his grandchildren, Carissa (Matt) Levorson, Brandon, Rebecca and Cody Wroe;

his siblings, Fred (Carol) Dickison and Don (Nancy) Dickison, both of Faribault, Lois Condon and Nancy (Jim) Talley, both of Palmyra, MO; his sister-in-law, Miyoko Dickison of Faribault and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edna; his son Russell Swartwoudt; his siblings, Bob, Mary Lou Johnson and Richard and by his niece, Pam Dickison.
