Janice Marie Kaupa

JANICE MARIE KAUPA, age 79 of Waseca, passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.

Born on December 30, 1942 in Waterville, Janice was the daughter of Norman and Ruth (Waugh) Klatt. As a young woman she attended school in Waterville before beginning her life with her husband, John W. Kaupa, whom she married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 6, 1959. Janice spent her working years with Wally’s Cleaners, Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home, Red Owl Grocery Store, and Shady Oaks Nursery, all in Waseca. In recent years she was a board member for the Waseca Senior Citizen’s Center and volunteered with the “Some Time Away” program and enjoyed her involvement in the Waseca American Legion Auxiliary. She was a long-time member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca where she participated in Faith United Methodist Women. Janice enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, reading, crocheting, flower gardening, fishing, and was an award-winning trap shooter.

Janice is survived by three children, Penny Flitsch of Rosemount, John (Julie Hodap) Kaupa of New Richland, and Todd (Stephanie) Kaupa of Waterville; nine grandchildren, Melissa Flitsch, Cory Kaupa, Jared Kaupa, Nicole Kaupa, Earl Flitsch, Jennie Kaupa, Jessica Schroeder, Mollie Kaupa, and Jordan Kunze; three great-grandchildren Wyatt, Blake, and Norah; one more great-grandchild on the way, Mazikeen; two nephews, Robert (Paula) Kaupa of Waseca and Nathan (Melissa) Kaupa of Waseca; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; one great-great-niece; and one great-great-nephew. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband; her parents-in-law, John and Dorothy Kaupa; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Kaupa; and a brother-in-law, Richard Kaupa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca, with Rev. Carolyn Doering officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
