Harriet Oftedahl, age 96, of New Berlin, Wisconsin and formerly of Alma City, died peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Heritage at Deer Creek Senior Living in New Berlin.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City, with the Rev. Keith Bilitz, officiating. Interment will be held at the Alma City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday morning.

Harriet Clara Augusta, the daughter of Emil and Emma (Brandenburg) Krueger, was born on May 28, 1917, in Alton Township, Waseca County. She attended grade school in Alma City and later graduated from Pemberton High School. Harriet then continued her education at Mankato State Teachers College to receive her teaching degree in 1936. After her children were older she returned to college to receive her B.S. in Education. On June 20, 1940, Harriet was united in marriage to Lawrence "Pete" Oftedahl at the St. John''s Lutheran Church in Alma City and were married for fifty six years. They were blessed with three children.

Harriet taught at rural schools in both Alma City and in St. Clair for a number of years prior to teaching at Pemberton Elementary for nineteen years, where she retired in 1979. She enjoyed being active in the Ladies Aide at St. John''s, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Night Owls Extension Club. Over the years she and Pete loved to dance, travel, and play cards. After living in the Alma City area for over eighty years, Harriet has resided at the Heritage at Deer Creek Senior Living in Wisconsin to be closer to family.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Renate) Oftedahl of Issaquah, WA, Dennis (Janice) Oftedahl of Edmonds, WA, and Susan (Kent) Nance of New Berlin, WI; her five

grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren, and by other family members and friends,

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pete in 1996, and by her sisters and brothers-in-law.
