Harold W. Westphal, age 78 of Janesville, died on December 22, 2011 at his home following his courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiate. Interment will be in the St. John''s Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iosco Township. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt- McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Tuesday morning for one hour prior to services at church. Harold William was born on November 16, 1933 to William and Leona (Santo) Westphal in Waseca Couny, Minnesota. He was baptized on December 17, 1933 and confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Harold attended country school and Trinity Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Janesville High School in 1951. On January 3, 1953 he was united in marriage to Arlene Hodgkins at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Harold and Arlene raised their family and resided on their family farm from 1968 until 1999. Following his retirement in 1999, Harold and Arlene moved into Janesville. During his years of farming Harold also worked for E.F. Johnson Company, Birds Eyes Foods Inc, and Fell''s Machine Shop, in Waseca. In his retirement Harold enjoyed helping his nephew Cal Priem with farm work. He was a talented musician and for many years played in Duane''s Little Band, and was instrumental in the first shows of Janesville''s Hee Haw. Harold was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. He loved to fish with his grandsons, and enjoyed the lake house and his fishing buddies. He is survived by his wife Arlene of Janesville; by his daughters, Sue (Arlo) Sime of Lakota, IA. and Sheryl (Joe) Williams of Elysian; by his sons, Jim (Nancy) Westphal and Jeff (Karen) Westphal both of Janesville; by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; by his brother Edward Westphal of Rapid City SD; by his sisters, Dorothy (Alvin) Priem of Janesville and Shirley (Alvin) Groskreutz of Waldorf; by many special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brother LaVern Westphal in January 2011; by his sister-in-law Audrey Westphal in June 2009; by his granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Gahler in June 2011.
