Harold Hal Olson, Jr.

HAROLD PHILLIP "HAL" OLSON, JR., age 89 of Waterville, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault.
Born in Superior, Wisconsin on June 30, 1926, Hal was the son of Harold and Stephanie (Iwasko) Olson.  He attended grade school in Duluth and high school in Superior, WI before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps on January 20, 1944, during his senior year.  Hal participated in fighting on Saipan, the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the invasion of the Philippines.  Following his honorable discharge in April 1946 he attended UCLA on the GI Bill, and later attended the Los Angeles Police Academy.  Eventually moving back to Minnesota, Hal was hired as a Hennepin County Deputy Sheriff where his duties included patrolling Highway 12 in the winter months and water patrol on Lake Minnetonka in the summer.  After two years of policing he went to work as a salesman for Carnation Co., Charmin Paper Co., Illinois Baking Co. where he became Vice President and then moved on to being National Sales Manager of Keebler Corp, on the board of directors for Dairy Queen, and then moved back to Los Angeles as President of Western Baking Corp.  Hal stayed in sales until his retirement at age 80. 
Hal married Mary Ann (Krzoska) Chapleski in 1958 and they had a son, Harold Phillip III in 1959 and a daughter, Victoria in 1960.  They divorced in 1976 and Hal married Susan (Kubicek) Wilson in 1981 in Lake Tahoe, NV.  They lived in Burnsville for 22 years until building on Lake Tetonka in Waterville where he loved watching all the lake activities, spending time with family and friends, driving his golf cart, traveling during Susies summer months off from teaching, shopping, and taking care of Kirby the 1st and Kirby the 2nd – their beloved Shih Tzus.
Hal is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susie Olson of Waterville; son Phil (JoAnn) Olson of Buffalo City, WI; daughter Vicky Mendez of Douglas, AZ; granddaughter Nicole Vileria of Phoenix, AZ; three great-grandsons; brother, Robert (Gail) Olson of Gordon, WI; sister-in-law, Barbara (Eldon) Peterson of Mankato; brother-in-law, Bernard (Karen) Kubicek of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, Isabel, Betty, Rochelle, and Dorothy.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, and will continue at the funeral home for one hour before the service on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, with Chaplain Jan Crissinger officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Interment will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
