Gregory M. Cahill, PhD, age 50 of Houston TX, formerly of Janesville, died suddenly on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor''s choice. Gregory Michael was born on July 17, 1958 in Mankato, Minnesota. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1976, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis/St. Paul. He continued his education at the University of Oregon in Eugene, earning his doctorate in biology and neuroscience. He received his postdoctoral training at Emory University in Atlanta GA. He then moved to Kansas City as a Research Assistant Professor in the Dept of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In 1994, he moved to Houston TX and continued his career at the University of Houston as an Associate Professor of Biology and Biochemistry teaching and conducting research on biological clocks/circadian rhythms. He was well known in his field and traveled all over the world speaking at conferences about his findings. In addition to being a successful scientist, he loved the mountains and river rafting. He is survived by his siblings, Byron "Pat" (Gena) Cahill of Kasson, Jared (Renee) Cahill of Prior Lake, William (JoAnn) Cahill of Eagan, Elizabeth (Paul) Bjorlin of Prior Lake, Paul (Jodi) Cahill of Janesville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul (2002) and Cynthia (2008) and one infant sister (1970).
