GORDON L. FLATEN, age 87 of Waseca died on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Janesville Nursing Home.

Born on December 14, 1930 in rural Goodhue County, Minnesota, he was the son of Clifford and Lillian (Grinstad) Flaten.  He was baptized and confirmed at Holden Lutheran Church in Kenyon.  He attended elementary school in rural Goodhue County before graduating from Kenyon High School.  He went on to attend management courses at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Gordon was married to Donna Mae Blasing on July 16, 1953 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Pine Island.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.  He was employed at the EF Johnson Co. in Waseca from 1957 – 1987 where he developed and managed the product service operations of the company.  He was employed by TERRA-THERM Inc. of New Richland from 1988 – 2007 serving as president for a time.  Gordon served on the LeSueur-Waseca Library Board including a term as president.  He was also a director of the National Association of Service Managers and served as president of the local chapter.  Gordon presided over the South Central Private Industry Council and participated with the USTTI, advancing technology in the developing world.
Gordon was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca where he served on the church council, served as congregational president, taught Sunday School, led Bible Study, and ushered.  Now a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, he has enjoyed Bible Study and volunteering.  He enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, and bike riding.  He especially enjoyed time with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Waseca; three daughters, Pam (Dennis) Born and Claudia (Dane) Wobschall both of Waseca, and Andrea Flaten-Peter of Farmington; three sons, Jeffrey (Mary) Flaten of Savage, Larry (Barbara) Flaten of Janesville, and Christopher Flaten of Fridley; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister, Phyllis (Arnold) Horejsi of Lonsdale and Ginger Blasing, widow of brother-in-law, Arnold Blasing of Pine Island.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Janesville Nursing Home or donors choice.
