Gordon Francis Galler was born on December 2, 1936, in Mankato to Frank and Rose (Wesely) Galler. He grew up in Janesville and was a 1954 graduate from Janesville High School. Following his education, he volunteered into the United State Army on November 22, 1954 and honorably served his country until August 31, 1956. Following his time in the service, he returned home to farm, and he attended Mankato State College. On June 17, 1961, Gordy was united in marriage to Dianne Adams at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Together they made their home southwest of Elysian, where they raised their five children and he lived the remainder of his life.
Gordy was a life-long farmer. Along with farming crops, he owned and operated Galler Grain Company at the farm for over 50 years, and raised and cleaned seed and reed canary grass as Galler Seeds. In the early 1950s, he developed his love for flying. Gordy and Dianne took countless flights around the countryside to check ditches, crops, enjoy the scenery, and to spend time at the cabin "up north". His cross-country excursions included the destinations of Colorado, Texas, Virginia, Alaska and the Hudson Bay. He was proud to pass his passion of farming and flying down to his children and grandchildren. Gordy was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville, and the Janesville American Legion. He could be seen having coffee with his many groups of friends. Gordy enjoyed restoring his 1923 Model T truck and his 1941 WW2 Stearman airplane. Eventually, fishing became a passion, mostly for the peace and quiet on Lake Winnie. He was a man of many interests and was famous for his story telling and witty sense of humor. Gordy enjoyed family time, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Gordy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dianne of Elysian; children: Frank (Jody Weimert) Galler of Elysian, Michael (Vicki Henry) Galler of Madison Lake, Nancy (Bill) Tuttle of Bradenton, FL, Theresa Galler of Farmington, and Meg Galler of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren: Brooke and Jackson Galler, Bobbi Jo (AJ) Baus, Jamie Frechette, Joseph Galler, Sophie (Alex) Cherwinka, and Keith Tuttle; great granddaughter: Adalyn Baus; siblings: Mary Helen Kennedy of North Mankato, Louise Hager of Madison Lake; sisters-in-law: Marge Galler of Chanhassen, Anne Galler of Virginia Beach, VA, Judy (Dick) Anderson of Stillwater, and Kathy (Darrell) Danielson, Mesa, AZ; brothers-in-law, Jack Prehn of Waterville, Dean Adams of Anchorage, AK, Dave (Shelby) Adams and Ev (Judy) Adams and Dick (Luane) Adams and Pete (Sue) Adams of Janesville, John (Janet) of Mankato, Paul (Vicki) Adams of Waseca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
