Gertrude Groth
Gertrude (Gallagher) Groth of Waseca passed away on June 21st, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
"Gert" was born October 2nd, 1926 to William and Cecilia (Guyer) Gallagher in St. Mary Township. She attended country school till 5th grade and then entered Sacred Heart through graduation 1944. Throughout her career she was employed at N.W. Bell, E. F. Johnson and Brown Printing in Waseca. On September 3rd, 1947 she married Lyle C. Groth. They made their home in Waseca until November 1964 when they moved to Le Sueur, MN. They returned to Waseca in November 1988 after retiring from Green Giant-Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis after 20 years. Gert had been a resident of St. Anne Extended Health Care in Winona for the past few years.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 228 in Waseca and a former member of the Catholic Daughters.
Gert was a very spiritual person and practiced her faith in the daily relationships she had with friends and family.  Her sense of humor and kind heart was such a blessing to those who knew her. She never hesitated to offer help or provide support to those in need. She was a loving wife and mother. She remained by her childrens side, encouraged them to never doubt but rather believe in themselves. She listened to their hopes and dreams and would celebrate them when they became true and provided comfort when they were shattered. Her children credit her with teaching them lifes lessons and giving them morals and standards to live by. Her strength has helped mold the character of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gert loved singing and dancing, going to the casinos, putting puzzles together, playing bingo and spending time with family and friends. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and had a large collection of Irish Memorabilia she displayed proudly. She knew how to make any event a memorable one for anyone who participated. Her love, sense of humor, genuine smile and caring support will be missed. She has truly had a positive impact on many lives and has made a difference.
She is survived by two sons Kevin Groth (Becky) – Farmington and James Groth – Waseca and two daughters Mary Jansen (Ron) – Winona and Debra Olson – North Mankato. Six grandchildren: Miranda Fischer (Bill) – Apple Valley, Brady Groth (Gina) – Inver Grove Heights, Jena Groth – Farmington,  John Olson and Mike Olson – North Mankato,  and Peyton Groth – Waseca.  Nine great-grandchildren: Boone Fischer, Cora Fischer, Rex Fischer, Taryn Fischer, Lyric Groth, Willow Groth, Santi Olson, Astazia Olson and Catarina Olson and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
