George Hayunga, age 65 of Waseca, died on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his daughter''s home in Waseca. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Martin Schaefer, Celebrant. The Hayunga Family will greet friends on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Saturday afternoon for one hour prior to services, at church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service Friday evening at the funeral home. It was George''s wish to will his body to the University of Minnesota Medical Anatomy Bequest Program. It was his hope to ensure the education of future health science professionals. George was born on February 2, 1946 in Waseca, Minnesota to Johannes H. and Katherine Mary (Pete) Hayunga. George was a 1964 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waseca. He was united in marriage on August 10, 1968 to Marcedes Scholljegerdes. They were later divorced. George resided in Mantorville from 1968 to 1969 where he was a chef at the Hubble House. Returning to Waseca in 1969 he continued his work as a chef at the Powell House. In 1972 George began a 32 year career with Brown Printing Company. He lived in Waterville from 1994 until returning to Waseca in 2010. George was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Over the years he had been an active member of the Waterville Lion''s Club, and a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. During his time in Waterville George served as a member of the Planning and Zoning Committee. He is survived by his two daughters, Andrea and Bill Tangen of Waseca and Christina (Tanner) and Joe Christenson of West St. Paul; by his grandchildren Derek and Blake Pfeifer, and Chandler Tangen; by his step grandchildren Sheldon Tangen, Peter, Alexa and Bridget Christensen; by his two siblings Sr. Chabanel Hayunga, OSF of Rochester, and Leo and Judy Hayunga of New Richland, and by his "brother from another mother" Gailen Lowery of Waseca; by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Richard and Delaine Scholljegerdes of Waseca; by many other relatives and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johannes and Katherine (Pete) Hayunga. Honorary bearers are: Bill Tangen, Joe Christenson, Derek Pfeifer, Blake Pfeifer, Sheldon Tangen, Chandler Tangen, John Scholljegerdes, and Gailen Lowery.
