Florence E. Wangsness, age 89 of Faribault, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Northfield Hospital. She was a long term resident of Faribault and has spent the last two years in the Northfield Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Northfield Retirement Community Chapel with the Rev. Diane Goulson, officiating. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Tuesday from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday for one hour prior to services at the chapel. Florence Emma Boettger, the daughter of John and Clara (Strauss) Boettger, was born on September 6, 1920 on the family farm in Pembina County, North Dakota. She attended school in Hamilton, ND graduating High School there in 1938. She than attended Deaconess Hospital school of Nursing in Grafton, ND where she graduated in 1941 as a Registered Nurse. On July 7, 1942, Florence was united in marriage to Otto Wangsness. Florence worked at Deaconess Hospital until her husband returned from serving in the Army in World War II in 1944. Otto and Florence moved to Faribault in 1952 where Otto managed the S & L Clothing store. Florence worked at St. Lucas Hospital, the Faribault Regional Center for 14 years, and for Russ Kennedy Group Homes for 10 years. Florence was a member of First English Lutheran Church and also a member of the American Legion Post 43 Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons, Drs. John (and Mary) Wangsness of St. Paul, MN, Rev. Marlin (and Colleen) Wangsness of Sioux Falls, SD and Dean (and Laura) Wangsness of Lonsdale, MN; by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; by a brother-in-law, Irv Wangsness of San Jose, CA; by a sister-in-law Connie Wangsness of Grafton, ND and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Altha Boettger and three brothers, John, Roy and Everett Boettger.
