Eugene P. Barnes, age 88 of rural Janesville, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Rochester.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 28th at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin, officiating. Interment will be in the Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.

The Barnes Family will greet friends on Wednesday morning for one hour prior to services, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to donor''s choice.

Eugene Pete was born on October 5, 1924 to John and Verna (Meisner) Barnes in Hector, Minnesota. He attended Mankato Schools. From August 13, 1943 until his honorable discharge on April 20, 1946, Eugene served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Eugene had a long career in Mankato. In 1989 he and Florence retired to rural Janesville. In his retirement he worked part-time for Crystal Valley Cooperative, and enjoyed farming with his son-in-law, Ray Winter. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Eugene loved watching birds and wildlife and treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Florence of rural Janesville; sons, Terry (Susan) Barnes of Mankato and Larry (Rebekah) Barnes of LeCenter; daughters, Ranae Trumbull of Waseca and Lisa (Ray) Winter of Janesville; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Arleen) Barnes of Madison Lake; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Queen and Darlene (Don) Rodell all of Mankato, and Sandy Zitzman of Minneapolis; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Berlaine (Vern) Sinclair; by his son-in-law Brian Trumbull.

Honorary bearers are Eugene's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
