Ervin S. Langer, age 97, of Faribault, MN died peacefully Saturday, December 21, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home following a brief illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Friday for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Ervin Sylvester Langer was born on August 12, 1916 to Albert and Josephine (Joachim) Langer in Warsaw Township, Rice County, MN. He was united in marriage to Marguerite Meillier on June 28, 1941 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Erv served in the South Pacific during WWII with the Army Corp of Combat Engineers from October 1942 and was honorably discharged in December 1945. He was a lifelong resident and farmer in Rice County. He also was employed at Nutting Truck and Caster Co., DX Filling Station, Faribault State Hospital, and was treasurer for Wells Township for 46 years retiring at age 92. He was dedicated to farming and enjoyed many drives to observe the crops. He also enjoyed playing cards and dancing to polka music with Marguerite. She preceded him in death on August 24, 1998. Erv was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus Council 889, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1562.

He is survived by his children, Mary Kaye (Lee) Schoeneman of Steamboat Springs, CO, Don (Cindy) Langer of Faribault, Dianne (Dave) Frye of St. Paul, and Anne Langer of Faribault; grandchildren, Katie (Stacey) Frye, Molly Frye, Andy Frye, Bill Frye, Tim Frye, and Travis (Kate) Langer; step-grandchildren, Jim (Melissa) Manz and Sherri Manz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite; parents; brother, George Langer; and brother-in-law, Leo Meillier.

Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Academy or Faribault Area Hospice in memory of Erv.
