Ernest "Gus" Leroy Sutter

July 12, 1933 — September 19, 2020

ERNEST “GUS” LEROY SUTTER, age 87 of Morristown, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at his home after a short illness.

He was born on July 13, 1933 in Blooming Grove Township. Gus was the son of Elmer “Butch” and Marion (Bosacker) Sutter. He attended Country School at District 74 until 8th grade and then Waterville High School. He graduated in 1951. As a young man, he farmed with his father until 1953 when he enlisted in the US Air Force until 1957. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to work on the farm. Shortly after that he met the love of his life, Peggy Lee Sikes. They were married on June 12, 1959. They were married 53 ½ years before Peggy passed away in 2012. One of the last things he ever said was that he loved her and that he would not have changed a thing about her or their life together. During this time they were blessed with 5 children and 5 grandchildren.

During his life, he held several jobs after returning from the Air Force. He vined peas, moved houses and worked at Herter’s in Waseca. Then from 1966 to 1976 he returned to the job he loved most and farmed full time with his father. Upon the death of his father, he moved the family to Phoenix, AZ for two years. While there he milked cows on a large dairy. In 1978, he decided to bring the family back home to Minnesota and settled in Morristown. He then worked at the Turkey Plant for a short time before he was hired at Brown Printing, where he stayed for 25 years until he retired.

Gus was a quiet, honest, hardworking, and loving husband, dad, and grandpa. The things he enjoyed most in life were spending time with his family and friends. He also liked to play cards, watch the birds outside the window, do fill-in puzzles and watch westerns, but he was most happy riding on his John Deere lawn mower. You know what they say, you can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy.

Gus is survived by his five children, Dawn (James) Lundin of Morristown, Dana Sutter of Waterville, Ann Rozanski of Waterville, Kelly Sutter of Morristown, and Jill (Donald Jr.) Sutter-Miller of Waterville and five grandchildren, Kathryn Lundin, Cassie Lundin and Brittany (Benjamin) Lundin-Drellack all of Morristown, and Zackary Rozanski and Ezekiel Rozanski of Waterville. He is also survived by three sisters, Audrey Hayes, JoAnn (Delency) Sutlief, and Janette (Robert) Larson all of Waseca and one brother, Lyle (Nana) Sutter of Waterville; two sisters-in-law, Laurel Hamill of Phoenix, AZ and Irene Sutter of Morristown. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his parents; grandparents; a brother, Richard Sutter; a sister, Thelma Morsching; and one sister and one brother in infancy; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Hayes, Willis Morsching and Charlie Hamill.
