EDWARD JOHN BATTENFELD, age 77 of Waseca died on Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Born on August 7, 1938 in Waseca County, Minnesota, he was the son of Fred and Gladys (Mogenson) Battenfeld.  He attended school in New Richland and served in the US Army.  He married Betty Lou Spear on June 15th, 1991.   Eddie was a dairy and crop farmer for many years and worked as a master pressman at Brown Printing Co.   He also worked for Born Well Drilling until retiring in 2000.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, cooking and watching sports.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca and was a former member of the Waseca County Sheriffs Posse.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Waseca; children, Brian (Kim) Battenfeld of Waseca, Patricia (Verl) Williams of Owatonna and Joliann (Steven) Cole of Owatonna; step-children, Rick Spear and friend Kathy of St. Clair, Randy Spear and friend Michelle of St. Clair, Rhonda (Steve) Koeck of Madison Lake, Robin (Andy) Reichard of Pemberton and Rochelle (Bart) Routh of Stafford, VA; 26 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his mother, Gladys Battenfeld of New Richland; brothers, Robert Battenfeld of Hartland and Martin Battenfeld of Bowling Green, KY; sister, Connie (Francis) Mucha of New Richland; sister-in-law, Myra Battenfeld of Elysian; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father; son, Bradley Battenfeld; brother, Russell Battenfeld; sisters-in-law, Lou Battenfeld and Carol Battenfeld; niece, Linda Spooner; and step-daughter-in-law, Cathy Spear.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 4-7 PM and continue on Thursday, one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. John Omans officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
