Edward W. Hedrick, age 75 of North Mankato, died on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his home. Private family services are planned. McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca is handling arrangements. Edward William was born and grew up in Steelville, MO. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1955 where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, Subic Bay in the Philippines, and Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. He was very proud of his service to his country and always greeted fellow Marines with the quintessential Marine Corps motto, "Semper Fi"! Upon his honorable discharge from the Marines in 1959, he married Elsie Hollingshead and moved to Mansfield, Ohio. In Mansfield Ed worked a few jobs in auto mechanics and construction before starting a job that turned out to be a long-term career in the corrugated box industry. He worked at Stone Container several years in Ohio then transferred to Castle Rock Container Corp. in Adams, Wisconsin. He worked his way up to Plant Manager throughout his 25 year career there. He was a well respected working man''s manager, who is remembered by his southern drawl, his sense of humor, and the many dedicated hours he gave to the corrugated industry. Ed was very active in his personal life. He enjoyed gardening, household construction projects, fishing and boating. He also learned the guitar later in life and played in a small blue grass band in his retirement home near Golf Shores, Alabama. He is survived by his wife Elsie (Hollingshead) Hedrick of North Mankato; by his daughters Pam (Larry) Nawrot of Friendship, WI, and Kimberly (Mark) Treat of Mankato, and his son Ricky Hedrick of Arkdale, WI; by his nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; by his five siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Leona (Medley) Hedrick; by eight siblings.
