Douglas R. "Bear" Barron, age 57, of Faribault, died on Monday, November 29, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault, with Rev. Craig Breimhorst, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Faribault, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Douglas Richard Barron, the son of Francis and Mary (Law) Barron, was born on May 30, 1953 in Northfield, MN. He attended school in Randolph, Faribault and Northfield and later served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was married to Christine Johnson on October 5, 1974 at Nerstrand State Park. They have always celebrated their anniversary each year by having an annual picnic at the Park on the first Sunday in October. Doug worked as a mason for many years, operating his own company Bearcat Construction. He enjoyed time spent with his family and friends and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Chris of Faribault; four daughters, Nicole (Mark) Douglas of Northfield, Rachel (Nate) Hunter of River Falls, WI, Amelia (Royal) Carr of Wanamingo, MN, and Kristina (Jason) Barron Monette of Faribault; seven grandchildren, Eric, Erin, and Paige Kleeberger, Zachariah Barron, Trevor Douglas, Renee Lee, and Britney Hunter; great grandson, Devon Kleeberger; sister, Patricia Bartell of Dennison; two brothers, Edward (Barbara) Barron of Albert Lea, MN, and Paul (Ina) Barron of Lexington, SC; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the food shelf in memory of Bear.
