Donald W. Aberle, age 88, of Faribault, died on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Friday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Faribault Area Hospice in memory of Don. Donald Walter Aberle, the son of Ernest and Antoinette (Becker) Aberle, was born on October 25, 1921 in Faribault. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1939. Don served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, with two years in the South Pacific. He married Jean Illg on June 21, 1948 at St. Dominic''s Catholic Church in Northfield. Following his military service, Don returned to Faribault and served as the first Rice County Veterans Service Officer from 1946-1958. He then worked as a self-employed salesman selling promotional advertising, representing Newton Manufacturing Co. and Zippo Manufacturing Co. among others. He was a member of the Faribault Council 889 Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 43, and the Marine Corps League. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Aberle of Faribault; seven children, Steve (Caryn Rea) Aberle of Anchorage, Alaska, Sue Schockemoehl of Northfield, Tom (Iola Young) Aberle of Juneau, Alaska, Donna (Kent) Peterson of Mountain Lake, MN, John (Beth) Aberle of Brainerd, MN, Ann (Steve) Thompson of Lanesboro, MN, and Dan (Jody Catron) Aberle of Portland, OR; five grandchildren, Jennifer Linder, Rebecca Gawtry, Matt Aberle, Craig Peterson, and Naomi Harris; five great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, John Schockemoehl.
