Delma E .Schmahl, age 83 of Madison Lake, died on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6th at 6:30 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Dan Weise officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville is handling arrangements. Delma Esther was born on February 20, 1928 to Delmer and Esther (Koch) O''Brien in St. Clair, Minnesota. She graduated from St. Clair High School in 1946. On June 19, 1949 she was united in marriage to Irvin W. Schmahl at St. John''s Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. The Schmahl''s lived in Mankato, Clear Lake, SD, and Janesville before moving to Madison Lake in 1954. Delma and Irvin owned and operated the Madison Lake Laundromat, the Frontier House Restaurant and the Pleasant Hill Manor Mobile Home Park in Madison Lake. She and Irvin enjoyed working on their hobby farm and were original partners in the Idlewild Development on Madison Lake. In 1989 Delma retired after 15 years of service from E.F. Johnson Co. of Waseca. In her retirement Delma enjoyed traveling and shopping. She was an active member in the Ladies of the Lakes Red Hat Society, German Club of Mankato and the Madison Lake Historical Society. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Scott) Hammett of Madison Lake; by her two sons, Steven Schmahl of North Mankato and Craig (Debra) Schmahl of Madison Lake; by her 12 grandchildren, Ashley Hammett, Travis Hammett, Kourtney Hammett, Brett Hammett, Kyle Hammett, Angela Brooks, Christopher Schmahl, Kristina Schmahl, Jonathan Schmahl, Eric Schmahl, Sonja Kramer and David Schmahl; by 11 great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; by her brother, David (Gerri) O''Brien of Congress, AZ, her sister, Donna Frenzel of Momence, IL; by her sisters-in-law, Margaret Schmahl of Madison Lake, Delores Schmahl and Elaine Schmahl both of Clear Lake, SD., and Adina (Dale) Holt of Santa Maria, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Irvin on October 28, 1999; by her sister Joanie Miller; by her daughter-in-law Debra Schmahl; and by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
