David Nelson March 28, 1935 - December 20, 2010

David Nelson, age 75, of Faribault, died suddenly on Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. David Walter, the son of Walter and Emma (Fuchs) Nelson, was born on March 28, 1935 in Faribault, MN. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1953. After high school Dave served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. On May 14, 1960 he was united in marriage to Joanne Tousignant at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Dave worked for different construction companies after their marriage. In 1970 Dave started a 28 year career with the State of Minnesota working both at MSAB and MSAD. He retired in 1998. Dave enjoyed being outdoors and watching wildlife, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Faribault. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne Nelson of Faribault; by five children, Mark (Emma) Nelson of Yuma, AZ, Bruce (Robin) Nelson of Faribault, Debbie Nelson of Faribault, Sally (Pat) Janostin of Champlin, MN and Brad (Lisa) Nelson of Coon Rapids, MN; by 10 grandchildren; by three brothers, Jerry (Arlyce) Nelson of Mesa, AZ, Ted Nelson of Santa Monica, CA and Van Nelson of Scottsdale, AZ; by his sister, Grace Ekstrom of Truman, MN and by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
