David L. Berndt, age 60 of Janesville, died on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Immanuel-St. Joseph''s Hospital in Mankato, after a courageous battle with cancer. Celebration of Life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. The Berndt Family will greet friends on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Friday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. David Lee was born on March 25, 1950 in Waseca, Minnesota to Emil Albert and Edna Cora (Evenson) Berndt. Following his graduation from Janesville High School in 1969 Dave entered military service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge in January of 1972 he returned home and was united in marriage on February 12th to Carol Jeanne Williams at St. Peter & Paul''s Catholic Church in Mankato. Dave and Carol raised their family and resided in Janesville their entire married life. Dave was employed with Brown Printing Company in Waseca for 28 years. The last three years of his career was with McQuay International of Owatonna, until poor health forced him to retire. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Dave enjoyed music, camping, serving as scout leader for his sons, motorcycle riding, and the outdoors. For the last 10 years they loved their Mississippi River retreat near Red Wing. His wife, children and grandchildren were the center of Dave''s life. David is survived by his wife Carol of Janesville; by his sons Michael (Jodi) Berndt of Sartell, Ryan (Elise) Berndt of Chicago, IL; by his daughters Lisa (Gale) Smith of Canon City, CO, and Melissa (Anthony) Wagner of Eden Prairie; by his grandchildren Ethan Berndt, Anthony Berndt, Emily Berndt, Andrew Berndt, and Katelyn Smith, and Cade Wagner; by his brothers-in-law Jerry (Vee) Williams of Mankato, and Jim (Karol) Williams of Aurora, IL; by his sister-in-law Mary Sharp (Ron Clark) of Knoxville, TN, and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary bearers are his sons and four nephews (all Eagle Scouts!) Michael Berndt, Ryan Berndt, Josh Williams, Jeff Williams, Peter Williams, and Paul Williams.
