DAVID ALLEN SOMMERS, age 57 of Waseca, died on Thursday, September 3, 2015 in Waseca.

Born on November 21, 1957 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of Allen "Buddy" and Janice (Moore) Sommers. Dave graduated from Waseca High School in 1977 and married Linda Cooper on July 25, 1981 in Waseca. Dave was involved in various occupations through the years including, operating a hog farm in rural Waseca and operating Sommers Repair for several years. In addition he worked with his brothers Rick and Tom at Sommertime Dairy. In 2004 he and his son Greg started Sommers Masonry which they continued to run to the present time. In 2011 Dave and Greg went to Australia to teach a building crew how to build grain bins. After being divorced, Dave later married Lori Hjelle December 29, 2012 in Waseca. In addition to the masonry business, D & L Properties began in 2012 and Bottoms Up Bar in downtown Waseca was started in 2014. Dave always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, growing flowers, playing Santa Claus at Christmas parties and helping others. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, and was active at the Waseca County Fair and the Waseca Wrestling Club.
Dave is survived by his wife Lori Sommers of Waseca; two children, Greg (Jenny) Sommers of Waseca and Carrie (Chad) Chum of Killeen, TX; step-daughter, Heather Hjelle of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Haylee and Peyton Sommers, and future granddaughter, Adalyn Chum; brothers, Rick (Bunny) Sommers of Waseca and Tom (Julie) Sommers of Janesville; first wife, Linda Sommers of Waseca; father & mother-in-law, Tom (Audrey) Hjelle of Barrett. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 3-8 PM at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September, 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. John Omans officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
