Cynthia Lee Barden was born on January 27, 1953 in Winner, South Dakota, the oldest of 12 children born to Marvin and Alice (Peitz) Blomstrom. She grew up in numerous towns across South Dakota, as her dad traveled working construction. She graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1971. Cindy continued her education at Rapid City Vo Tech and later at South Central College in Faribault. After graduating her family moved to Waseca and in 1972, she met Greg Barden. They were later united in marriage on August 23, 1975, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Together they lived for one year in Janesville before building a home in Waseca where they raised their two children. She worked for Riha Law Office for a short time before staying home to raise their two children. She later worked for Rice County as a financial officer which lead to working for Waseca County as a Child Support Officer retiring in February of 2019.
Cindy enjoyed hosting holidays, and spending time in the pool. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. Cindy was known for making her homemade meals from scratch. She was a classy lady, always dressed to impress and her decorative style was always on point. Cindy was a social butterfly and would always have the biggest smile and greatest laugh. Above all else, she cherished the time she spent spoiling her grandkids.
She is survived by her loving and husband of 44 years, Greg of Waseca; children: Joe Barden of Mankato, and Katie (Scott Prokopec) of Owatonna; grandchildren: Evan Somage, Kaden Prokopec; Poppy Prokopec; siblings: Marva (Jeff) Smith, Bobbi (Mike) Casey, Bill (Ann Gjerstad) Blomstrom, Michael Blomstrom, Betsy Marsteller, Pam (Greg) Sands, Jackie (Rocky) Matthews, Diane (Reagan) Leafstedt, Steven Blomstrom, Shelly Blomstrom and Annie Pruitt; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
