BRUCE THOMAS HERING, age 72 of Mankato, formerly of Waseca, died on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato after a strong and courageous 3 ½ year battle with colon cancer.
Born on October 20, 1944 in Waseca County, Minnesota, he was the son of Ben and Lenore (Schwichtenberg) Hering.  He graduated from Waterville High School in 1962 and Mankato State College with a degree in math and physics education.  He taught math and physics at Janesville High School for 14 years and Waseca High School for one year. He then worked at the E. F. Johnson Co. in Waseca as a manufacturing engineer for 20 years and later Itron for 12 years before retiring in 2016.  Bruce married Deborah Dahnert on June 12, 1971 at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca.  Bruce was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed farming, gardening, old radios, old cars, fishing, and antiques.  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca, the Pavek Radio Museum, and the Waseca Amateur Radio Club.
He is survived by his wife, Deb of Mankato; two children, Thomas (Tricia) Hering of Mankato and Sarah (David) Nuernberg of Brooklyn Park; five grandchildren, Ashlyn and Gavin Hering and Alyssa, Lauren and Michael Nuernberg.   He is also survived by two brothers, Ward (Verna) Hering and Mark (Eileen) Hering both of Waterville and many nieces and nephews.   Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Ben Hering Jr.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 4-7 PM and continue on Tuesday, one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
