Arlene Westphal, age 78 of Janesville, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8th at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Reverend Dr. Larry Griffin, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John''s- Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Iosco Township, Waseca County. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville and will continue on Friday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Arlene was born on June 11, 1933 in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to Morris and Mary (Biddeson) Hodgkins. She was baptized in April of 1941 at the Janesville United Methodist Church by the Rev. G.E. Martin. Arlene was a 1952 graduate of Janesville High School. She was united in marriage to Harold William Westphal on January 3, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, and on March 27th that same year was confirmed by the Reverend A.T. Koehler. Arlene and Harold raised their family and resided on their family farm from 1968 until 1999 when they moved into Janesville. Over the years Arlene worked in many different capacities including providing day care, Trinity Lutheran Church secretary, and a para professional with JWP Schools. She was longtime member and faithful volunteer of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville where she was active in the Altar Guild and Braille Publishing. Arlene enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles, and refinishing furniture. She especially enjoyed time spent at the lake cabin with family. Arlene is survived by her daughters, Sue (Arlo) Sime of Lakota, IA, and Sheryl (Joe) Williams of Elysian; by her sons, Jim (Nancy) Westphal and Jeff (Karen) Westphal, all of Janesville; by her 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; by her brother Rodger (Anna Louise) Hodgkins of Janesville; by her sisters-in-law Dorothy (Alvin) Priem of Janesville, Shirley (Alvin) Groskreutz of Waldorf, and Carolynn Westphal of Janesville; by her brother-in-law, Edward Westphal of Rapid City, SD; by nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Harold on 12/22/2011; by her brother-in-law LaVern Westphal in January of 2011, and sister-in- law Audrey Westphal in June of 2009; by her granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Gahler in June of 2011.
