Alvin Leonard Priem April 6, 1923 - October 16, 2014

Alvin Priem, age 91, of Janesville died on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Janesville Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Reverend Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment will be held at St. John''s Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iosco Township.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to services on Saturday.

Alvin Leonard, son of Adolph and Bertha (Ewert) Priem, was born on April 6, 1923 at the home farm in Janesville. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended country school and Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville. Following his schooling, he began his lifelong farming career. He farmed from 1943-2000 on the Priem family farm which has been in the family since 1886. He also worked as a custodian at Trinity Lutheran School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Westphal on September 10, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Alvin was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a Trustee and an Elder. He was also the Secretary/Treasurer for the Smiths Mill-Janesville Sportsman''s Club. Alvin also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Priem; his children, Judie (David) Sheehan of Janesville, Nancy (Mike) Mann of Portland, Oregon, Cal (Karen) Priem of Elysian, Willie (Janell) Priem of Janesville, and Bruce (Diane) Priem of Portland, Oregon; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Harriet Priem; and by many other relatives and friends.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sylvester Priem and Donald Priem; sisters, Esther Priem, Flossy Priem, and Genevieve (Priem) Hruska; and by his grandsons, Lucas Smith and Billy Hesch-Priem.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville.
